Our Lake James Dragon Boat Festival venue is Lake James State Park Paddy’s Creek Area. The park is just 20 minutes from downtown Morganton on NC Hwy 126 and is the main entrance of the Lake James State Park. Once you enter, you’ll cross the beautiful landmark – the Paddy’s Creek bridge, a wooden, arched bridge with great sunrise views.

Tucked away in rolling hills at the base of Linville Gorge, Lake James State Park has 25 miles of trails and three campgrounds. Paddy’s Creek has 33 drive-to, family-friendly campsites, picnic areas, a bathhouse, and restrooms.

DIRECTIONS: Lake James State Park is located in Burke and McDowell counties, five miles northeast of Marion on NC 126. From I-40, take the Dysartsville/Lake James exit (exit 94) and head north for 0.5 mile to a stop sign. Turn left onto US 70 and follow it for 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Bridgewater Road and travel 1.2 miles. Turn left onto Benfield’s Landing Road, and follow it for 2 miles to a stop sign. Turn right onto N.C. 126, and follow signs to the Paddy’s Creek Area 0.7 miles on the right.
